Happy 1st Anniversary, Officer Singh!

The L5P Alliance wishes Officer Angelina Singh a happy first anniversary working here in our Little 5 Points District! Officer Singh has been a wonderful partner in addressing public safety issues for our area. She doesn’t just work here – Officer Singh has taken the time to build relationships and get to know the business owners, property owners, and some of the L5P regulars, and she often helps connect those in need to support services. Earlier this week our friends at the Freedom Park Preschool showed their appreciation by delivering these beautiful handmade cards to Officer Singh. Read on for an interview about why we she loves her job.

Why did you decide to become a police officer?

I decided to become a police officer because I have a passion for helping people. I’ve always felt a calling to the service to be honest. I’ve been raised in a way to respect the rules and laws, and to treat people the way I’d like them to treat me.

What makes you most proud to be an officer here in the City of Atlanta?

I was born and raised here, so it is an honor to serve my city as a community officer. APD, in my opinion, is one of the best agencies to be apart of, they offer top training, support, and developmental resources.

What do you like about working in Little 5 Points?

Little 5 points is a very unique district. I like the community and the roots of the area.

How do you think neighbors could be more engaged to help with safety issues in Little 5 Points?

Don’t become a victim. Initiate a buddy system where there are two or more people at all times - criminals are less likely to approach two people as opposed to one vulnerable person. Get to know your neighbors -with a close knit community, people will be more likely to spot suspicious activities or persons in neighborhood. Know what’s happening and report any suspicious activity. Staying up-to-date with the news and crime trends can help your community stay proactive and involved.

If you could change one thing about Little 5 Points, what would it be?

I love the culture of Little 5 Points, I don’t think I would change it. I think it is important to know the history of Little 5 Points and to keep the history around. I would like to see the old school Little 5 points and the new school Little 5 points merge in a harmonious way.
